Visiting Medical Students

Program Overview

The Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) provides medical students with opportunities to rotate through diverse areas of our specialty. Under the guidance of our dedicated faculty, students gain valuable exposure to the principles and practice of rehabilitation medicine, building a strong foundation for future training and patient care.

Elective Rotations

Sub-Internship in PM&R

  • Four-week audition rotation experience
  • Training in multiple subspecialties, including spinal cord injury, brain injury, stroke, amputation, electromyographic (EMG), spasticity management, prosthetics, orthotics, musculoskeletal medicine, and pain management.

Application Instructions for Burnett School of Medicine at TCU or TCOM Students

If you are a medical student at the Burnett School of Medicine at TCU or TCOM and are interested in an elective Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation rotation, please contact Maria.Hamud@texasrehabhospital.com.

Application Instructions for Students of Other Schools

Medical students from other allopathic or osteopathic medical schools in the U.S. may apply for an elective sub-internship rotation through Visiting Student Learning Opportunities (VSLO). Please allow six weeks to complete the application process.

  1. Availability: View the elective catalog and availability in VSLO for a list of open rotations. If there are openings that align with your schedule, proceed to next step.
  2. Pre-decision: Complete the rotation application and submit it, along with supporting documents, through VSLO. Required supporting documents include:
    1. Criminal Background Check/Drug Test Attestation Letter from Home Institution
    2. AAMC Standardized Immunization Form
    3. Curriculum Vitae (CV)
    4. Headshot
    5. Letter of Intent
    6. Transcript
    7. Letter of Good Standing
    8. Copy of USMLE/COMLEX scores
    9. Letter of Recommendation (1)
    10. Medical School Professional Liability/Malpractice Insurance Coverage
  3. Post-decision: Applications that are extended a conditional offer will need to submit final supporting documents. Required documents for rotation acceptance include:
    1. AAMC Standardized Immunization Form
    2. ACLS
    3. BLS
    4. Medical School Affiliation Agreement
