Program Overview
The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Residency Program has up to six available positions per post-graduate year and is actively recruiting for PGY-1 positions. Our goal is to produce well-rounded residents who have a balanced experience in a variety of clinical settings prior to graduating.
We offer a rewarding, rigorous educational environment where residents receive individualized learning opportunities to maximize their full potential as clinicians, educators, and healthcare leaders. Our training prepares them to deliver modern, patient-centered care in a variety of settings throughout the healthcare continuum. For those physicians looking to pursue a specialty, our program's expansive selection of rotation sites, subspecialty exposure, research opportunities, and complete ancillary support allows for wide-ranging opportunities to gain exposure to and pursue future interests.
As a community-based program, we value teamwork, interdisciplinary collaboration, understanding of successful care transitions, and the assurance that our care delivery model consistently delivers high- quality outcomes for our community. Our faculty offer a variety of teaching styles, diverse backgrounds and practice specialties to meet the unique needs and interests of our residents.
Our primary site, Texas Rehabilitation Hospital of Fort Worth, is a 66-bed Inpatient Rehabilitation Hospital with CARF-accredited specialty programs in Stroke, Brain Injury and Spinal Cord Injury located in the Medical District of Fort Worth. Residents will also have opportunities to rotate through a wide variety of sites, including Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital, John Peter Smith Hospital, Cook Children’s Hospital, and a diverse group of outpatient practice sites.
Our academic affiliation with the University of North Texas Health Science Center allows us to offer a vast array of resources for our residents, including research opportunities and a state-of-the-art simulation lab.
Residents will graduate from the program with a well-rounded approach to care delivery. They will have a sound understanding of the dynamics of a multitude of practice sites, outcomes measurement, utilization, performance improvement, and effective communication techniques, among other competencies.

The Texas Rehabilitation Hospital of Fort Worth (TRHFW) Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Residency Program’s mission is to provide a comprehensive training experience for the residents and deliver high-quality patient care. The TRHFW Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Residency Program is committed to creating a program that will provide residents with a broad exposure to physical medicine and rehabilitation, while developing interpersonal skills, communication skills, and professionalism. Graduates of the program will be competent, independent physicians dedicated to improving patients in their recovery journey, within the community they serve.
